Why GST refunds get stuck
Most refunds aren't rejected because the claim is wrong. They get stuck on paperwork. Does any of this sound familiar?
Data mismatch
Figures in GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and shipping bills don't match, so the claim never moves forward.
Deficiency memo
The department issued a deficiency memo (RFD-03) and the claim has to be filed again.
Notice before rejection
A show-cause notice (RFD-08) needs a proper reply in time, or the refund can be rejected.
Bank account not validated
The refund is sanctioned but can't be paid because the bank account on the portal isn't validated.
Wrong category or missing statements
The claim was filed under the wrong refund type or without the required statements and annexures.
Running out of time
Older periods are close to the 2-year limit, and once it passes, the refund is lost.

Frequently asked questions
Who can claim a GST refund?
Common cases include exporters (of goods or services), businesses with an inverted duty structure, suppliers to SEZs, and anyone with excess balance in their electronic cash ledger. Call us and we'll tell you whether you qualify.
Is there a time limit for filing a refund?
Yes. Under the GST law, a refund application generally has to be filed within two years from the "relevant date", which depends on the type of refund. It's best not to wait, because older claims can lapse.
How long does it take to get the refund?
As per the law, the department is expected to process a complete application within 60 days. For zero-rated supplies such as exports, a provisional refund of up to 90% may be granted earlier. Actual timelines vary with the case and any queries raised.
I export goods and paid IGST. Do I need to file RFD-01?
Usually not. For export of goods with IGST paid, the shipping bill itself is treated as the refund application. The refund often gets stuck because of mismatches between GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and the shipping bill, and we can help fix those.
What happens if the department raises a deficiency memo?
We review the memo, arrange the missing documents or clarifications with you, and file a fresh application or reply as required.
Do you work with businesses outside Gurugram?
Yes. We work with businesses across Delhi-NCR, including Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. Most of the work happens online, so there's no need to visit our office.
